Island Spear Co is free to read. To keep it that way, some of the links on this site are affiliate links — and this page explains exactly what that means, in plain English, as the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asks us to.

What an affiliate link is

When we point you to a piece of gear, the link to buy it sometimes carries a tag that tells the retailer we sent you. If you buy after clicking one, Island Spear Co may earn a small commission — at no additional cost to you. You pay the same price you would have paid anyway.

Amazon Associates

Island Spear Co is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. We may join other affiliate programs — including spearfishing-specific retailers — over time, and this disclosure covers those too.

Our recommendations are editorially independent

This matters to us, so we’ll be blunt about it:

• No paid placement. No brand can pay to appear in a comparison, to rank higher, or to be called a pick.
• Commissions never change the data. Regulations summaries and gear-comparison tables are compiled the same way whether or not a product earns us anything.
• We’re a new site.Right now our picks are curated on specs, materials, and reputation among divers — not on hands-on testing of every item, and not on who pays the most. When that changes, we’ll say so here.

How we mark affiliate links

Where affiliate links appear, we note it nearby, and the links are tagged as sponsored so they’re transparent to your browser and to search engines. If you’d rather not use them, you can always search for the same product directly — it costs you nothing either way.

Product imagery

Product photos in our gear guides are the manufacturers’ own product photography, used solely to identify the recommended item. Each image carries a visible credit that links to the manufacturer’s product page. If you own the rights to an image shown on this site and would like it removed or credited differently, email hello@islandspearco.com and we’ll honor the request promptly.
